MÍCHÉAL AODH MARTIN:

Made a superb save to close the space and deny Daire Cregg.

Had a few wayward kickouts but stepped up in the second half when Roscommon ramped up the pressure.

SEÁN MEEHAN: Was quiet enough throughout the entire first half, but didn’t do a whole lot wrong. Was the obvious change for John Cleary to make at half-time.

DANIEL O’MAHONY: Had a lot to do, especially in the first half. Made some brilliant tackles and had one big interception. Positioned himself well defensively. Pulled off a stunning block on Diarmuid Murtagh to save Cork’s season. 8

MAURICE SHANLEY: Got caught out for Donie Smith’s point in the first half and slipped to allow Ciaráin Murtagh an easy point for Roscommon’s third. Grew into the game as it went on and battled hard when Cork were under serious pressure in the late stages. 7

BRIAN O’DRISCOLL: Kicked the game’s only two-pointer in style after intercepting a Roscommon kickout. Got one assist and his influence waned a little as the game went on. 7

SEÁN BRADY: Did superbly to get back on the line and stop a Roscommon goal after Martin had saved from Cregg. Positioning was great throughout and had a lot to handle dealing with Diarmuid Murtagh’s presence. Solid performance.

MATTY TAYLOR: Played a quick line ball to Seán McDonnell that he converted, and had one key interception. Worked hard. 6

IAN MAGUIRE: Simply outstanding. Got high in the air for so many restarts, kicked two points that probably should have been goals, pulled off a number of great catches from kickouts, got an assist and played a huge part in Cork’s counterattacks. Man of the match. 9

COLM O’CALLAGHAN: Was superb in midfield alongside Maguire. Worked exceptionally hard, forced two excellent turnovers, kicked two points and chipped in with an assist. Covered some distance and came out on top of his battle with Shane Cunnane. 8

PAUL WALSH: Got a good point just before coming off with a hamstring tweak. Was involved throughout, but had a couple of sloppy turnovers and struggled to find space up front to shoot. Worked hard, particularly on kickouts.

SEÁN WALSH: Got caught early on with one Cork kickout but battled hard in the middle. Was a strong aerial presence, doing a lot of the groundwork for Cleary’s side, especially on the Roscommon restarts. Did well to win a free that Cronin converted before departing in the 42nd minute for Eoghan McSweeney. 7

SEÁN MCDONNELL: Finished with 0-4, a fisted score, two kicked points and one brilliant effort. Great to Brian Hurley for his 20th-minute point. His best performance in the three games so far. 8

MARK CRONIN: Started a little shaky but quickly grew into it after getting his first free. Followed that up with three points from play and another free. No wides. Solid all-round display.

BRIAN HURLEY: First time playing an entire 70 for Cork this year. Chipped in with a point and an assist, but worked hard inside and looked sharp. Just one wide.

CHRIS ÓG JONES: Struggled to find his league form from earlier in the year. Had two assists but one bad turnover in the first half, while nothing went his way in front of the posts: three wides and two short attempts. Made way for Cathail O’Mahony after 61 minutes.

SUBS…

RORY MAGUIRE: Came in for the second half and positioned himself well, especially when Cork looked to recycle possession. Got caught once with a slip that allowed Cian McKeon to set up Daire Cregg for the score that left a point between the teams in the 65th minute.

EOGHAN MCSWEENEY: Great impact off the bench. Got a point and an assist, had one turnover against but did a lot of running. 7

SEÁN POWTER: Came on in the 55th minute for Paul Walsh and battled hard. Then recovered the ball at the end to hoof it out over the sideline to seal Cork’s win.

RUARÍ DEANE: Replaced Matty Taylor in the 59th minute, just as Cork started to relinquish control. Carried the ball well and his movement inside was good.

CATHAIL O’MAHONY: Entered the game with 61 minutes gone and Roscommon just two behind. Got Cork back on track, kicking a crucial point in the 68th minute to leave the Rebels in front by two. 7
